Spring and summer are full of color in the florals and bright fresh plants all around. Why not celebrate even further by saving the seed packets you use to plant God’s beautiful artwork and create a quick and easy banner for a garden party, inside summer decor, or like me…use it on your potter’s bench turned craft table!
I can’t say this idea is original, but I couldn’t ever find a DIY of the one I saw in passing online. I had to create one for my potter’s bench that is now my indoor craft table…it only seemed appropriate. This thing is easy as can be and would be a great project for children old enough that can help you plant the contents of the seed packets and then teach them about recycling by using the packets to make this fun decor piece!
And if you don’t want to or don’t have space to plant a bunch of new plants, go buy the seed packets from the dollar store and just empty them out and begin with my step 1.
So here we go…easy as 1 – 2 – 3!
#1 Take any number of empty seed packets – it depends on where your banner is being made for…I began with 8 because I knew my distance to cover and how I wanted it to drape. Cut triangles out of the bottom of one like you see below. Match up the others thereafter so they all get the same size triangle cut out and are all uniform.
#2 Using a single hole punch, punch a hole in each top corner of the packets about 1/2″ away from the top and side. Continue for each packet until you are done.
#3 Layout your packets in the pattern you desire and string them up!
String them with your stranding of choice…I used twine. But begin by going through the front of the left side running the twine behind the packet and out through the right side. Then begin again with the next one and continue on. This will leave you with a very clean finished banner with the bulk of the strands in the back.
Pin it up where desired and you are complete! Here is mine in the finished space!
How fun and simple! Hope you enjoyed with quick DIY tutorial. Poke around my site and stay awhile…there is a lot more to see!
